and Training (CHaRT-Sierra Leone)
Prof. Osman Sankoh COR [BSc.Ed. (Maths); BSc. Hons., M.Sc. & D.Sc. (Statistics)] is an accomplished Sierra Leonean Statistician, Epidemiologist, and Public Health Specialist.
He is the Executive Director of the Centre for Health Research and Training (CHaRT-SL) and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Management and Technology in Sierra Leone, an adjunct professor in the School of Community Health Sciences at Njala University, Sierra Leone and a visiting scholar in the Institute of Global Health (HIGH) at the University of Heidelberg Medical School, Germany. Prof. Sankoh was Sierra Leone’s Statistician General and CEO of Statistics Sierra Leone, Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, the Executive Director of the INDEPTH Network of health research centres in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and the Vice-Chair of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
Prof Sankoh has authored more than one hundred peer-reviewed scientific papers in journals including The Lancet, Nature, International Journal of Epidemiology and Science. He has managed large grants from agencies such as IDRC, Sida, Gates Foundation, NIA, Hewlett Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and Wellcome Trust.
He is currently on the international Scientific Advisory Boards of the South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN) and The Lancet Global Health journal.
