Jane Githuku
Senior Advisor, Public Health Surveillance
and Data Systems

Dr. Githuku is a medical epidemiologist with 17 years’ experience in public health. She has contributed to health workforce development efforts while working at the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program at the Ministry of Health in Kenya. In her more recent roles, Dr. Githuku led the PMI Measure Malaria project as the Resident Advisor and later on served as the Malaria Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor for the Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) program in Kenya.

A recurring focus in all the roles she has held is strengthening public health surveillance and promoting use of data to inform decision making. Among the highlights of her career have been spearheading the mid- term malaria program review and development of the monitoring and evaluation plan. Dr Githuku conceptualized and led the SME mentorship program for frontline malaria program staff. She also led the development of the first edition of the malaria surveillance guidelines for Kenya. She is also keen on embracing digitization to enhance public health processes.

Notably Dr. Githuku contributed to the automation of malaria epidemic monitoring in Kenya, and the consolidation of malaria data through development of a malaria module. Keen on improving data quality, Dr. Githuku oversaw the rollout of electronic malaria routine data quality assessment tool in Kenya and defined methods for systematically assessing data quality. As the malaria surveillance, monitoring and evaluation advisor with the PMI Measure Malaria project and CHISU program, she provided technical support for the establishment of systems for malaria elimination in Kenya.

Dr Githuku has a deep-seated passion for improving health outcomes especially in underserved communities. She intends to leverage the skills, partnerships and networks developed in the course of her career to contribute to scalable, resilient and sustainable health programs.
