Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
Dr. Appolinaire Tiam is a distinguished expert in HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis with extensive experience in managing integrated service delivery projects and scaling up HIV and TB services across sub-Saharan Africa. Building on a foundation of direct patient care, he has advanced global health initiatives through clinical, technical assistance, program evaluation, advocacy, and management of donor-funded projects.
Dr. Tiam is Vice President of Technical Strategy and Innovation at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). In this role, he leads the vision for technical leadership, innovation, program optimization, and external technical assistance to achieve 95-95-95 targets for populations at risk of or living with HIV/TB. He is also a member of EGPAF’s Senior Leadership and Global Leadership Teams.
As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Tiam oversees clinical research logistics, IRB applications, study design, implementation, and data collection to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality results. He has led and contributed to numerous studies in Lesotho, Kenya, Uganda, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Malawi, Eswatini, and Zambia, serving as Principal or Co-Investigator. His work has been published and presented internationally.
Dr. Tiam has deep expertise in working with global donors, including PEPFAR/USAID, CDC, Global Fund, Unitaid, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He previously served as Chief of Party for the USAID-funded Strengthening Clinical Services Project in Lesotho and Principal Investigator for PEPFAR/CDC-funded initiatives.
Dr. Tiam earned his Medical Degree over 20 years ago, a Diploma in HIV Management from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, an MMed in Family Medicine from the University of Witwatersrand, and a Ph.D. from the University of Bergen in Norway. His dedication continues to transform HIV/TB care and research globally.
