Dr. Garrett is an internationally recognized biomarker expert with more than 30 years of experience supporting ministries of health, academia, and non-governmental organizations to collect national level biomarker data to estimate the prevalence of HIV, chronic diseases and micronutrient deficiencies. He is well respected for his work in the adaptation of field-friendly techniques to support biomarker research and testing in resource-constrained settings.
Dr. Garrett has provided technical oversight to projects funded by the US Centers for Disease Control, Harvest Plus, PEPFAR, and USAID. Prior to founding Bio-Metrics, LLC, Dr. Garrett held the position of Laboratory & Biomarker Advisor to the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program, a USAID-funded international development project mandated to collect national level biomarker data and build laboratory capacity in resource-limited countries. In this role, he provided technical assistance and project management to more than 40 population health surveys in countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
